The Glades Shopping Centre is excited to invite the local community to view our proposals for the redevelopment of the former Debenhams unit.
Since its closure in 2021, this part of the centre has remained vacant, creating a noticeable gap. Our proposal aims to revitalise the area by introducing new retail and leisure opportunities across three levels, alongside improvements to the public space at the entrance with new planting and seating. These changes will help reconnect Elmfield Road to the town centre and attract further investment to Bromley.
We will be hosting a public exhibition where you can meet the team behind the proposals, ask questions, and share your feedback.

About The Proposal
The plans will see the former Debenhams unit repurposed into three separate stores, each located on a different level, accommodating major retail and leisure operators. This redevelopment will also contribute to Bromley’s night-time economy with extended opening hours.
Additionally, the proposals include enhancements to Elmfield Road, with new green spaces and seating to create a welcoming environment for shoppers and those waiting for public transport.

FAQs
- Who is going into the units?
- The occupiers of these units have not yet been announced but will comprise a major retailer and leisure operators. Once the application has been approved, The Glades will be in a position to confirm who will occupy the space.
- What age group are the stores and leisure uses aimed at?
- These stores and leisure uses will be aimed at all ages.
- When will the stores be open?
- If the application progresses smoothly, the new stores and leisure units should be open in the Winter of 2026.
- Will the new units still be accessible from the car park as Debenhams was?
- The new units will not have lifts serving them directly as Debenhams did. Access will be via the existing centre lifts that connect the malls to the car park.
- Will these uses produce noise that could impact residents?
- These uses are all internal and as such, there should not be any noise emitted that would impact residents. Rooftop plant will be replaced with more modern efficient units that will be much quieter than the old equipment.
- Will the facade of the building change?
- There will be some changes in signage along Elmfield Road and a new set of doors will be introduced, which will be designed to blend in and not impact the look of the building.
We look forward to welcoming you to the exhibition and hearing your thoughts as we work to create an even better shopping and leisure destination for Bromley.
