Something fishy is happening at The Glades this summer

‘Water’ you doing with the little ones this summer? Holidaying abroad? Day trip to the beach? How about cruising on down to The Glades Shopping Centre, which is set to make a big splash with its awesome aquatic adventure, ‘You, Me and the Sea’?

Dive into Bromley’s free event – in partnership with National Geographic Kids, an imprint of the global book publisher HarperCollins, and the Marine Conservation Society – from Monday 29 July until Friday 30 August for a ‘sen-sea-tional’ time discovering what lies beneath.

The Glades is inviting small-sized sailors to explore the deep blue sea, uncovering its mysteries, learning about captivating crustaceans, fabulous fish, the majestic marine world and much more.

Suitable for children aged five to 10 years old, 40-minute tours led by ‘Sea Captains’ will set sail from the lower central atrium of the shopping centre. A giant submarine will take guests to the bottom of the ocean, and ooh arr! What’s that up ahead? It’s a pirate ship me hearties, where event-goers can find out about well-known explorers.

Once they’ve earned their sea stripes, attendees can take part in a special ‘gradu-ocean’ ceremony where they will be presented with an official sailor diploma.

Mark Haynes, Director of The Glades, promises that children and their families will have a whale of time at this unmissable summer showcase. “We are back with another super exciting and informative activity that will wow younger generations and impress their families.

“Regular visitors to our holiday showstopper will know that You, Me and the Sea is going to be a brilliant event that will keep the little ones very entertained and engaged in a truly memorable way,” he said.

“The Earth’s waters are largely undiscovered and with environmental issues such as plastic pollution on many people’s radar, You, Me and the Sea is a fantastic opportunity for children to learn more about taking care of the planet while having the best time.”

The activity is free to attend but tickets must be booked on The Glades’ website at Cruises will take place from Monday to Friday at intervals between 10am and 4pm. Parents, guardians and caregivers are advised to ‘seas’ the day and book early, as spaces are set to get snapped up faster than when the Titanic went down.

Scoring a hattrick of UK exclusives, The Glades’ You, Me and the Sea event offers something to float everyone’s boat, with exhibitions of sea vessels, artefacts and deep-sea diver equipment on display throughout the mall, enabling all visitors to get on board with the fun.

Event partner and publishing juggernaut, HarperCollins is offering bundles of sea-themed books as part of a competition on The Glades’ Facebook page launching in a few days’ time. Michelle I’Anson, Publisher at HarperCollins, said: “We are delighted to be working with The Glades on such an exciting event for children and their families.

“Good luck to everyone who enters the competition and we hope the winners will love reading about our amazing oceans and the creatures in them.”

Also joining the partnership is the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), which has something special in the pipeline, with ‘Pacific’ details to be revealed shortly. Kate Whitton, Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager – South East for the charity, said: “MCS is delighted to be part of this event at The Glades.

“It’s a brilliant concept to be bringing the sea and the coast and it all it has to offer into the heart of Bromley. It’s vital that the next generation get an understanding of how important the oceans are to all of us – as they are the conservationists of the future.

“We’ll be running our national Great British Beach Clean in September and the few days at The Glades may inspire people to join in and register.”
