The Glades names Chartwell Cancer Trust as its charity of the year

Staff at Bromley’s The Glades shopping centre have chosen The Chartwell Cancer Trust (CCT) as its nominated charity for the year.

As part of the celebrations following the centre’s return to its original name in its 25th year, the team at The Glades are hoping to raise thousands for the local charity from fundraising and donations throughout 2017.

“The CCT supports the work of the Chartwell Cancer and Leukaemia Unit at the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough,” said Kate Miller, General Manager of The Glades. “The unit provides an invaluable service to the region, and when we asked our staff to nominate our charity of the year, the CCT was the clear choice.”

Colleagues at the Bromley shopping centre have already planned some fantastic fundraisers for the year and Kate said they can’t wait to get stuck in.

“We’ve already entered a team of 20 into the June World War Run,” she said. “It’s a 5-mile obstacle race through tough mud pits, hilly terrain and barbed wire crawls, with more than 80 obstacles, mustard smoke and a paintball gauntlet, so will be incredibly tough as well as great fun.

“We’ve also put together a very fearless team of ‘Wing Walkers’, who will be taking to the sky at Damyns Hall in Essex on Sunday, 6 August.”

Further fundraising fun will be announced throughout the coming months, as the team hopes to raise £50,000 for the charity, which will pay for a specialist nurse for 1 year.

CCT Trustee Michael Douglas said he is delighted with the new partnership. “We are very pleased that The Glades has chosen us as their charity of the year for 2017,” said Michael. “We were delighted to be nominated by staff. Having the centre on board is fantastic news as it will help raise the profile of the charity within the local community.

“The team have a host of exciting things planned in the centre and we will be keeping our supporters and the local community up to date on forthcoming events and ways they can get involved, as well as reporting back on the fundraising progress”.
