The Glades strikes film partnership deal. Shopping centre scores with Bromley footie film

The Glades Shopping Centre has teamed up with the makers of new football flick, The Bromley Boys, and to celebrate the partnership, has special ticket offer for the black-tie world premiere at Wembley Stadium, which kicks off on Thursday 24 May.

Set in 1969, The Bromley Boys film – out in cinemas on Friday 1 June – is inspired by the memoir of the same name and written by Bromley-born author, Dave Roberts. The big screen adaptation directed by Steve Kelly features a best of British starting line-up, with the likes of Alan Davies, Martine McCutcheon, Adam Deacon and introducing Brenock O’Connor in the lead role, telling the story of a boy, a girl, and ‘the worst football team in Britain’ – Bromley FC.

Kate Miller, General Manager of The Glades, said she is delighted the centre is supporting the film. “It’s a great thrill to be affiliated with The Bromley Boys movie and very exciting to think that our town will take the spotlight in such a fantastic way for the whole country to see. It will be a lot of fun spotting all the familiar locations, too.

“There has always been great passion here for Bromley FC and the film is a wonderful tribute to that. The centre is a focal point for bringing the community together, so this is a wonderful opportunity for us to show our support for the film and celebrate the great, fighting spirit of Bromley football fans.

“The film tells a brilliantly funny tale from when Bromley FC was football’s underdog, but fast-forward almost 50 years and the team is on the way to Wembley!” Kate said.

Shoppers at The Glades will see that film posters have popped up around the centre, and not forgetting the chance to attend the star-studded premiere on Thursday 24 May in The Great Hall at Wembley Stadium. A 10% discount can be redeemed with the code Bromley10 when purchasing tickets from EventbriteHERE

The Bromley premiere of the film will be at the Bromley FC ground on Hayes Lane on Sunday 27 May. Two synchronised screenings will be shown from 6pm in the bar and hospitality area upstairs. Tickets are priced from £7.50 and are available from Eventbrite HERE

TJ Herbert, Producer of The Bromley Boys, commented the partnership with The Glades had great synergy with the film’s message. He said: “I spent a lot of time in and around Bromley sourcing locations and finding local people to be part of the film and became aware very quickly of how much the shopping centre means to people. The Glades is a big part of everyday family life and this sentiment is echoed in the film with lead character, Dave’s love for his beloved Bromley FC.

“The Glades has millions of people walking through its doors each year, so where better to shout about the film? I hope Bromley enjoys what’s been created, as it’s a real laugh-a-minute tale. Football fans everywhere and of all ages can enjoy watching the club’s calamities unfold, which is in stark contrast to the performances we see from today’s superb Bromley FC boys.”

Kate explained that The Glades is now in its fourth year of sponsorship with Bromley FC, making the tie-in a spot-on collaboration. “There will be an increased presence in the centre with football fixture lists on display and a fantastic, permanent hoarding celebrating all-things Bromley FC on the upper mall near McDonalds. In the lead up to Wembley, a pop-up shop will be opening near Marks & Spencer on the upper mall,” she added.

Jeff Hutton, General Manager at Bromley FC, said: “We’ve had amazing support this year, both from the borough and The Glades, and you can’t write what we’ve achieved in our 125th anniversary season,” said Jeff. “We work closely with The Glades and I know our staff, players and supporters always receive a really warm welcome from the shopping centre team.”

“It makes perfect sense for The Glades to be getting everyone revved up for The Bromley Boys film, which alongside the club’s historic FA Trophy Final at Wembley on Sunday 20 May, is going to be a huge deal for the town,” continued Jeff. “We’re all really looking forward to the premiere and enjoying a feel-good, reminiscent look back at ‘Britain’s worst football team’ and just how far we’ve come. It promises to be a must-see for any football fan.”
